Le Crédac

Lisières

Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza et Mickaël Phelippeau

This project initiated in September 2009 gathers the art and research center Bétonsalon in Paris, the Center for Contemporary Art in Ivry - le Crédac and non-francophones two classes, one from Romain Rolland high school in Ivry and one from the Camille Claudel college in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

Lisières, through the practice of two artists, Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza for high school students, and Mickaël Phelippeau for middle school students, allow two classes located on each side of the Parisian ring road to work around the notions of encounters, borders, territories and identity. Through photography, video, and federative exercises that encourage the young migrants to speak out and exchange, they are able to find their place in the class and, more broadly, to take ownership of the territory. The artists intervene over a period of five months, alternating workshops and collective sessions for the shaping of the works.
A presentation of the productions and research carried out by the students takes place in partnership with the Espace Gérard Philipe of the city of Ivry from May 10 to June 12, 2010.

Artists biography

  • Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza (born in 1978 in Ecuador, lives and works in Paris since 2002) graduated from the École National de Beaux Arts de Paris in 2007, and has participated in post-graduate programs at the ENSBA in Lyon and Paris. “Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza works as an archaeologist of the image; in the shadows, she is not interested in what is visible on an image, but in what lies behind it […]: dust, stains, halos, so many manifestations that are barely visible but that say less about themselves than about what is not shown. Leaving a trace, marking something, so many gestures that interest the artist by what they imply. Disappearance, or at least the possibility of disappearance, is always present in the artist’s work, especially through the work of gumming and erasing undertaken by the artist for several years. …] For the artist, creating is firstly a political act. Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza presented her solo exhibition entitled l’espace épisodique at the Centre d’art contemporain d’Ivry - le Crédac in 2014. Mickaël Phelippeau (born in 1978, lives in Paris) is a choreographer, dancer and visual artist. After a plastic arts training and a career as a performer in several dance companies, he follows the ex.e.r.ce training at the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier and has been developing his choreographic projects since 1999.
