Mars in The Well
Minh Quý Truong (and Freddy Nadolny Poustochkine)
Mars in the Well, 2014. Film, colour, sound, 19’.
Childhood memories and the landscape of his hometown are the materials of his films. Mars in the Well is largely shot in his parents’ farm in Buon Ma Thuot. Faced with the predicted catastrophe of rising water levels (in the Mekong Delta, the sea is already penetrating up to 60 km inland), Minh Quý envisages 2053 as the year Saigon will be submerged, and the year of Vietnam’s first attempts at a manned mission to Mars.
